EPDM wet pour granules are a high‑performance, impact‑absorbing safety surfacing system engineered for durability, flexibility and long‑term resilience. Designed using a specially formulated blend of polyurethane binders and premium EPDM granules, the system delivers reliable performance in even the most extreme climates around the world.

Versatile Applications

EPDM wet pour granules are designed for a wide range of recreational, commercial and domestic environments. Its combination of impact absorption, impermeability and extensive colour options makes it ideal for creative, safe and visually engaging spaces.

Common applications include:

  • Playgrounds and school play areas
  • Pool surrounds and splash zones
  • Theme parks and water parks
  • Holiday parks and leisure facilities
  • Care homes and therapeutic environments
  • Golf courses, walkways and cycle paths
  • Domestic gardens and recreational spaces

Technical Performance & Certification

Built on a robust two‑layer system designed to meet strict safety and performance standards.

Base Layer

  • 2–6mm SBR rubber granules
  • Thickness: 20mm to 115mm, depending on required critical fall height
  • Binder ratio: 10% by weight
  • Mixed for 3–4 minutes in a force‑action mixer for full granule coating
  • Lightly trowelled — not compacted — to maintain optimal impact absorption

Wearing Course (EPDM Layer)

  • Minimum depth: 15mm, or 20mm when used as a single layer
  • Binder ratio: 20% by weight, or 25% when using recycled‑back EPDM
  • Finished using a screed bar, hand trowel and ideally a steel roller for a smooth, consistent surface
  • Supersol release agent recommended for clean, efficient finishing

Subbase Compatibility

Suitable for:

  • Macadam
  • Concrete
  • Compacted MOT Type 1 or Type 3

For non‑porous subbases, adequate drainage must be installed prior to application.

Curing Conditions

Polyurethane binders are moisture‑curing.

  • Approximate cure time: ~6 hours at 25°C and 50% RH
  • Lower temperatures extend cure time; higher temperatures reduce it
  • Installation should be avoided during wet or rainy conditions

Cleaning & Maintenance

To keep EPDM chippings looking its best and performing safely, a simple maintenance routine is recommended:

  • Clean regularly using mains‑pressure water, a stiff brush and a pH‑neutral detergent
  • Remove organic debris promptly to prevent pore blockage and algae growth
  • Treat stains with warm water and mild detergent; heavier oil marks may be reduced with methylated spirits
  • In snow or ice, use a brush or rubber scraper — avoid metal tools, de‑icers and salt

EPDM chippings are a non‑hazardous system when used with appropriate PPE.
Commercial installations involving isocyanates require professional training; guidance is available in the material safety data sheets for each component.

Packaging

All SBR and EPDM granules are supplied in 25kg plastic bags for easy handling and storage.
