If you like the look of natural bark but want something that actually lasts in the British weather, coloured rubber bark is a great alternative. It has the same soft, natural appearance, but with the durability and low‑maintenance benefits of rubber — making it ideal for gardens, borders, play areas, animal enclosures, pathways and decorative spaces.

Our coloured rubber bark is made from recycled forklift truck tyres and processed to be 100% wire‑free, so it’s safe for children, pets and animals to be around. It’s clean, splinter‑free and non‑toxic, and because it doesn’t rot or break down like wood mulch, it stays looking good for years with very little upkeep.

You can lay it loose for a soft, cushioned finish, or mix it with resin if you want a bonded surface that stays firmly in place. It's a popular choice for paths, borders and high‑traffic areas. With long‑lasting colour options including Blue, Brown, Red, Green, Grey and Black, it’s easy to create a finish that suits your space.

Unlike natural bark, which fades, compacts and turns to mulch after a wet winter, rubber bark keeps its colour and shape for far longer. It drains well, doesn’t attract pests, and won’t wash away easily.

Why people choose coloured rubber bark

One of the biggest reasons people switch from natural bark to rubber is longevity. Traditional bark looks great for a few months, but once the rain sets in, it starts to break down, fade, compact and attract mould. Rubber bark doesn’t do any of that. It keeps its colour, shape and cushioning for years, even in shaded or damp areas.

It’s also incredibly low‑maintenance. A quick rake or tidy‑up is usually all it needs; no annual topping‑up, no muddy patches, no soggy mulch to deal with. And because it’s permeable, you won’t get puddles sitting on the surface after a downpour. Water drains straight through, leaving the surface usable all year round.

    Coverage & Mixing Guidance

To help you plan your project:

    • Each 10kg sack covers around 1m² at a 25mm depth
    • For a 50mm bonded surface, you’ll need:
      • 20kg of rubber bark per m²
      • 4kg of resin per m²
    • The ideal mix is a 5:1 ratio (20% resin)

This makes it easy to calculate exactly what you need for both loose‑fill and bonded installations.
