If you’re looking for a surface that stays consistent under hoof, drains well and reduces mud all year round, 20mm equestrian rubber chippings are a reliable choice. Designed specifically for equestrian use, these chippings help create a cushioned, supportive surface that’s kinder on joints and far more stable than sand or wood‑based alternatives.

Made from 100% recycled, 99.9% wire‑free rubber, they’re clean, safe and long‑lasting. Ideal for arenas, gallops, turnout pens, lunging rings and high‑traffic gateways where horses tend to churn up the ground. The 20mm size gives a good balance of cushioning and stability, helping to reduce compaction while still offering enough grip for controlled movement.

Unlike wood fibre or bark, rubber doesn’t rot, break down or turn to sludge in winter. It drains quickly, stays usable in wet weather and helps prevent the deep, sticky mud that can cause slips, strains and unnecessary wear on tendons. It’s a practical, low‑maintenance option for busy yards that need a surface they can rely on.

These chippings can be used on their own or mixed with sand depending on the type of work you’re doing and the feel you prefer. They’re also a popular choice for improving existing surfaces that have become compacted or uneven over time.

Coverage Guidance

Coverage varies depending on the base and intended use, but as a general guide:

  • 50mm depth is suitable for light‑use turnout areas
  • 75–100mm depth is recommended for arenas, schooling surfaces and higher‑impact work

If you’re topping up an existing surface, you’ll usually need less.

Where These Chippings Work Best

Customers use 20mm equestrian rubber chippings for:

  • Outdoor and indoor riding arenas
  • Turnout pens and winter paddocks
  • Lunging rings and round pens
  • Walkways, gateways and high‑traffic yard areas
  • Improving tired or compacted sand surfaces

They’re especially useful in wet, heavy‑clay areas where mud control is a constant battle.
